Margaret 'Peggy' Benke, 83, Lifelong Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Margaret "Peggy" M. Benke, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Dec. 23 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 83.

Benke was born April 2, 1929, in Stamford to Cornelius and Mary Kearney Kenneally. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and worked for Charleson Publishing Company in Darien.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick W. Benke, Jr.

She is survived by six children, Elaine (Daniel) Pavlick, of Woodbury, Conn., Rick (Darla) Benke, of Topeka, Kan., Meg (Mark) Plona, of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, John Benke, of New York City, MaryAnn (Stephen) Fisher, of Newtown, Conn., MaryJane (Brian) Hogan, of Trumbull, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Timothy Benke.

A funeral service was held Thursday at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal rescue charity of choice.
