Margaret E. Burkhardt, 90, Longtime Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. - Margaret E. Burkhardt (Betty) of Stamford died Sunday, Oct. 5. She was 90.

Burkhardt was born Jan. 1924, in Portsmouth, N.H., to Ralph and Margaret Gardner Junkins. She graduated from Portsmouth High School, attended the University of New Hampshire and worked at the Portsmouth Navy Yard during World War II. After marriage she moved to Stamford in 1952.

Burkhardt is survived by her husband, John J. Burkhardt Sr. of Stamford; son, Jay Burkhardt and Carol Weisbrot of Stamford; daughters, Peggy Burkhardt (Joe) Golden of Beckley, W. Va., Mary Nattrass (Brian) of Vancouver, BC, and Teresa Coperine (John) of Stamford; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents.

Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm St., Stamford. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s R.C. Church, St. Benedict’s R.C. Church or a charity of your choice.
