Lillian Sommers, Of Stamford, 97

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Lillian Sommers, a Stamford resident, died on Monday, Feb. 23, in her home. She was 97.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Edward and Emilie (Wagner) Kleiss.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, a World War II veteran.

In recognition of his service, Sommers continued supporting local veteran groups over the years, especially the VFW.

Sommers was very active with her church throughout her life, and in her younger years spent countless volunteer hours helping others in the community.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Sommers Fraioli and her husband, Richard, of Stamford, a niece, Melinda Schroeder and her husband, Dennis and a brother-in-law Kenneth Sommers of Astoria, N.Y.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 208 Newtown Ave., Norwalk, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
