A 52-year resident of Stamford, Vignola ran for mayor in 1987 and again in 1989. He served as vice president of the Stamford Economic Development Commission as well as in many civic posts.
He graduated from Northwestern University and Case Western Reserve University with an M.B.A. A founding partner of Beacon Partners Inc. for the past 36 years, Vignola had an extensive history in the small business and Connecticut political community.
He was a former Board of Finance member and was chairman for two years. He also served as chairman of the board of directors for the City Transit District and the board for the City Small Business Center.
He was on the board of directors at the Stamford Historical Society, a founding director of the Stamford Partnership and a member of SACIA Chamber of Commerce. Vignola served on the board of directors of the VNA, was a member of the Jaycees and served as president of Venture Group.
He also served on the board of directors at the New England Lyric Operetta, was an adviser to the Ethel Kweskin Theatre and was chairman of the board of directors at the Connecticut Ballet.
Vignola's family said he was known for his rapier wit, quick mind, easy laugh and no-nonsense approach to just about any topic.
A memorial gathering will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Connecticut Ballet, , 20 Acosta St., Stamford. Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford is handling arrangements.
