Lawrence O. Halleck, 99, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Lawrence O. Halleck, 99, died Thursday, May 28.

He attended Stamford schools followed by Shorts Secretarial School. He worked in the accounting department of Liberty Magazine in New York City, Fawcett Publications and retired as internal auditor of Stamford Fidelity Trust Co., now Bank of America, in 1978.

Halleck served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force in the U.S. and in Labrador, Canada, in the weather department.

He enjoyed sports, especially hockey, golf and fishing on Long Island Sound. He was a member of the Halloween Yacht Club for 61 years.

He took pleasure in taking his friends and their sons out on his boat, "Chopper II," showing them how to fish, even giving the youth fishing poles and lures he had made for them.

He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the U.S., to the National Parks in North and Southwest Canada, and to the Panama Canal and Europe.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and George Halleck.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; daughters Linda Putnam and Nancy Smith; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 42 Cross Road, Stamford. Reception will follow in the lounge.

Interment will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in his memory to the Young Mariners Foundation, 151 Harvard Ave., Stamford, CT 06902.

Arrangements are being handled by Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., in Stamford.
