Lawrence Novak, 79, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Lawrence Samuel Novak, of Stamford, died on Saturday, Jan. 17, from complications of Parkinson's disease. He was 79. 

Novak, son of Gertrude and Nathan Novak, was born in Bridgeport in 1935. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He worked for G&B Dodge before moving into the nascent IT industry in the late '60s. His love of technology fueled his career at companies such as Tymshare, RapidData and TSR.

He was an active sportsman, who loved basketball, tennis, running and skiing. He volunteered as a coach and mentor of the Stamford Young Timers basketball league for more than two decades and represented the JCC basketball team in the Maccabees games. He was a member of Agudath Shalom and the JCC. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Bernstein Novak; his children, Robin, Brad and Debby; his brother, Elliott; and his grandchildren, Samantha and Adam Nack, Anne Novak, and Jacob and Lucas Vellozzi. 

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica.

A funeral service will take place at Congregation Agudath Shalom on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at noon. Burial will follow in Agudath Shalom cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Larry's memory to either the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation or the CJ SIDS Jessica Nack Fund.
