Josephine Savona, 79, Formerly Of Stamford, Worked For Cytec

GREENWICH, Conn. - Josephine Savona of Greenwich died Aug. 29. She was 79.

Savona was born Dec. 28, 1933, to Philip and Margaret Murphy of Greenwich. She worked at American Cyanamid (today known as Cytec) in neighboring Stamford for many years. After marriage she settled with her husband in Stamford and lived there for nearly 30 years. She and her husband retired to Deerfield Beach, Fla., in the late 1990s and later returned to Connecticut to be closer to their grandchildren.

Savona is survived by her son, David Savona (Manuela); son, Carey Savona (Alison); three grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Murphy; brother, Philip Murphy; many nieces, nephews; grand nieces, grand nephews: and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore C. Savona; and siblings, Mary Murphy, Peggy McGlynn, Danny Murphy, Patricia Smith, Dennis Murphy and Esther Burns.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich. Burial will follow immediately at Saint Mary Cemetery.
