STAMFORD, Conn. - Joseph H. Grant, Jr. of Stamford died Saturday, Sept. 14. He was 90.
Grant was born April 15, 1923, in Tillman, S.C., to Joseph H. Grant, Sr. and Geraldine McNeil-Grant. The family migrated to Stamford in 1925. He attended Bethel A.M.E. Church in the 1930’s and ‘40’s. He served as an usher and sang on the church choirs. He was educated in the Stamford Public School System and graduated from Stamford High School in 1941. He studied art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and was a member of the Society of Freemasons. He served in World War II in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He owned the Grant Rug & Carpet Installation Company, and was sole proprietor of the Westover French Cleaners in Stamford.
Grant is survived by his son, Charles (Joey) Grant of Pa.; daughters, Deidre’ Grant-Morris of Delaware., Elizabeth Grant-McBroom (Derrick) of Connecticut, Terry Grant-Grasty (Jody) of Texas, Valerie Grant of Connecticut, Michelle Grant-Robinson of Connecticut; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews; family; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Wilimena Grant-Hayes (Robert); brother, Nathaniel Grant (Marie); his wife, Lucy McDonald-Grant; son, Lloyd E. Grant; daughters, Vanessa Grant, Jano Grant-Johnson, Yolonda (Dusty) Grant; granddaughters, Keisha Grant-Archibald, Ashley C. Harper; and son-in-law, James (Rick) Morris.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Sept. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, CT 06902.
