Joseph F. Gutowski, Of Stamford, WWII Veteran, Plumber

STAMFORD, Conn. - Joseph F. Gutowski of Stamford died Tuesday, May 21. He was 89.

Gutowski was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Stamford to Julia (Kobiatka) and Anthony Gutowski. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 where he served his time in Southern France with Company B, 104th Infantry Regiment during WWII. In his three years of service, he earned five bronze star medals for his valor and bravery in course of action. Following his time in the service, he worked as a plumber for 60 years.

Gutowski is survived by his wife, Emily Gutowski, of Stamford; daughters, Susan McGuinness (John) and Judith Sarnelle (James); five grandchildren; and a great grandson. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Anthony, Walter, Benjamin and Frank Gutowski.

Calling hours are Friday, May 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 325 Washington Blvd., in Stamford. The committal service and the interment will immediately follow Mass at St. John R.C. Cemetery in Darien.
