STAMFORD, Conn. - Judge John J.P. Ryan died May 1, 2013. He was 81.
Judge Ryan was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Stamford, son of Daniel and Mary Ryan. He graduated from Fordham University in 1954 and Fordham University School of Law in 1957. After his marriage he lived in Stamford with his family until 2009.
Prior to joining the bench, he practiced family law and later served as chief clerk of the Stamford Common Pleas and Superior Courts. He was appointed a superior court judge in 1980 and became a senior judge in 1997.
Judge Ryan is survived by his children Ellen, John, and Sheila; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1200 Shippan Ave. in Stamford.
