John Mariano Jr., 86, Stamford WWII Veteran

STAMFORD, Conn. – John Mariano Jr., a lifelong Stamford resident, died Jan. 23. He was 86.

He was born to John Mariano Sr. and Maria Sarni Mariano. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Mariano worked as an adjuster for Continental Insurance of New York.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Mariano; a daughter, Donna (Diego) Musilli; a son, John (Karen) Mariano; a sister, Angela (Nicholas) Paidas; a stepson, Rocky Progano III; a stepdaughter, Marie (Robert) Malwitz; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mariano was predeceased by three brothers, Jerry, Fred and Michael Mariano; and a sister, Antoinette Carella.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. Burial will be private. Lacerenza Funeral Home in Stamford is handling arrangements.
