STAMFORD, Conn. John "Jack" Henry Maguire III of Stamford died June 27 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was 72.
Born Feb. 14, 1940, in Greenwich, he was the son of John H. Maguire Jr. and Stella Zatorsky Maguire. Raised in Greenwich, Maguire attended Greenwich High School and Gallaudet University, where he played guitar in the university's first all-deaf rock 'n' roll band. He graduated in 1967 with a degree in chemistry.
Married to Carolyn Becker Maguire, he was a longtime employee of American Cyanamid Cytec and a member of the Byram Vets. Maguire loved fishing, classic cars and music from the 1950s.
Maguire is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Peter (Kim) Maguire of Pittsburgh and Joseph (Karen) Maguire of Southbury; a sister, Jean Haywood; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Maguire.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home in Stamford. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Darien. Burial will be private.
