Johanna DeLavalle, 99, Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Johanna (Jean) DeLavalle of Stamford passed peacefully surrounded by family at home on Wednesday, Feb. 18. She was 99. 

DeLavalle was born in Hudson, N.Y., on Dec. 27, 1915, to the late John and Mary Kyoytvow Gorecki.

When she was 17 years old, DeLavalle was voted Miss Apple Blossom Queen of Hudson and was honored to ride in a horse-drawn carriage in the local parade.

DeLavalle well-known in the Stamford area throughout her life as "Nana" and played a role in her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's lives with almost daily visits to their workplaces with homemade treats as well as visiting classrooms at Toquam School and helping out in any way she could.

DeLavalle is survived by her daughters, Marian DeLavalle-Jordan (Robert Jordan) of Stamford and Barbara Griffin of Stamford; two grandchildren, Dana Griffin and Terry Griffin; and two great-grandchildren Ashley and Alexa Griffin.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis DeLavalle.

Funeral services under the direction of the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue in Stamford, took place Friday morning, Feb. 20.

Interment will be at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien.
