Howard Frank Ackerly, 84, Of Stamford, Retired VP For Bartlett Tree Experts

STAMFORD, Conn. - Howard Frank Ackerly of Stamford died Friday, Aug. 2. He was 84.

Ackerly was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Westport, son of Ruth Gregory and Wallace Ackerly. He graduated from Staples High School in Westport and joined the U.S. Army to serve during World War II as an MP. After his discharge, he went to school on the G.I. bill at the University of Bridgeport, earning a bachelor's degree in business administration. He joined Bartlett Tree Experts as an accountant and retired 47 years later as a vice president and comptroller of the Company. He was an adult leader in the Junior Achievement organization. He was a Life Member of the Masonic Temple Lodge 65 in Westport.

Ackerly is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Karen L. Jones of Stamford, and Scott H. Ackerly (Maria) of Lexington, S.C.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Helena Laird of W. Babylon N.Y.; many nieces, nephews; cousins; and in-laws. He was predeceased by sister, Carol; and brothers, W. Donald and Martin.

Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. and a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 2900 Summer St. The Reverend Dr. David Van Dyke will be officiating. Inurnment will be private.
