STAMFORD, Conn. – Helen Ryba Baum of Stamford died Oct. 21 at Stamford Hospital. She was 80.
Baum was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Stamford to Michael A. and Helen Wissman Ryba. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur H. Baum. She retired from Union Trust Company as vice president for community relations, public relations and legislative affairs.
A justice of the peace, Baum took great joy in performing wedding ceremonies, her family said. She volunteered for Republican campaigns and for the United Way. She also was involved with several other community organizations.
Baum is survived by a brother, Michael G. (Joyce) Ryba, of Brookfield; two nieces Elayne J. (Richard Nadeau) Ryba and Nancy J. (Donald Groeschner) Ryba; and a nephew, Kenneth M. (Marilyn) Ryba.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home in Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stamford. Burial will be private.
