He and his wife, Lois, celebrated their 58th anniversary last fall. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, coach and mentor to all who knew him.
He and his wife moved to Riverside in 1962, where they became an integral part of the Greenwich community and where he coached hockey and baseball for many years.
Rogers served on the Board of Trustees of The Brunswick School, where the hockey team award for commitment and dedication is named in his honor.
During his more than 50-year membership at Innis Arden Golf Club, he served for many years on the Board of Directors, including two terms as president. He served in the Air Corps in the South Pacific for the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Rogers played varsity football and baseball at Princeton University as a member of the Class of 1948.
After college, he played professional baseball for the Boston Red Sox, until a shoulder injury prematurely ended his dream, at which time he went on to pursue a career as an advertising executive in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, shooting, golf and tennis. At Princeton, he earned the nickname "Happy Hal" that fittingly stuck with him for the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; his son Gary and his wife, Linda, of Madison; his son Bruce and wife, Mary, of Darien; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his eldest son, David.
