George F. Vredenburgh, Jr., 81, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – George F. Vredenburgh, Jr., 81, of Stamford, died Saturday, Aug. 15 at Masonic Health Care.

Born May 15, 1934, in Stamford, he was the son of the late George and Mary Sherwood Vredenburgh. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War. He was a former employee of Perkin Elmer & Branson Instruments as a welder. He also greatly enjoyed tinkering.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Barnum.

He is survived by his four children, George C. Vredenburgh (Anita Taylor) of Redding, Connecticut; Laurie Trani (Bud) of South Carolina; Sharon Lyons of Seymour, Connecticut; and Melinda Bottone (Tom) of Oxford, Connecticut; a sister of Stamford; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may greet the family Tuesday Aug. 18 from 5-8 p.m. in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 5 East Wall St., Norwalk. Interment will be Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Norwalk.
