Frank Schmalzl, 91, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, CONN. – Frank Schmalzl, a Stamford resident, died Sunday, April 12. He was 91.

Schmalzl resided in Patterson, N.Y. for most of his life, raising his family and working at Eastern Airlines. He served multiple terms as town councilman, and worked as secretary, bookkeeper, and sexton for the Sacred Heart rectory.

He was a proud World War II veteran, representing veterans at the Putnam Lake Memorial Day parade.

Schmalzl was predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Frances Torok Schmalzl and his brother John, and is survived by his wife Mary Ann; his children, Amy Bridenstine and her husband Mark, their children Joseph and Hannah of Indianapolis, Ind. and Thomas and his wife Nicole of Stamford; his sister-in-law Mabel, his nieces, Donna McCann and her husband Tom, and Denise McGinty and her husband Jim.

Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:10 a.m. Thursday for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget of Ireland Roman Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford.

Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, located at Oaklawn Avenue in Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Schmalzl's memory to New Covenant House, 90 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902.
