Francis W. Carroll, 78, Longtime Stamford Resident, Retired IRS Agent

STAMFORD, Conn. - Francis (Frank) W. Carroll of Stamford died April 17. He was 78.

Carroll was born July 15, 1934, and grew up in the Bronx. Carroll graduated from Iona College in 1956, from Fordham Law School in 1966, and from St. John's University in 1973 with an MBA. He was admitted to the bar in the state of New York. He was drafted into the Army, and discharged in June of 1963. After his marriage he moved with his family from the Bronx to Stamford in 1970.

Carroll had a varied career before and after retirement, with jobs (often two or more at once) ranging from ice cream vendor at Yankee Stadium, to tax manager at Howmet Corp, to bus driver for special ed kids, to revenue agent at the IRS. After retiring from the IRS in 2001, he started his own business, switching sides to represent taxpayers. He was a parishioner at Saint Cecilia Church on Newfield Ave. in Stamford.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Tom, Mike, and Kathleen DeMott; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy O'Connor.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church 1184 Newfield Ave. in Stamford.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
