Florence Shapiro, 91, Formerly Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Florence Shapiro, 91, a longtime resident of Stamford, died on Jan. 18 in Carmel, Ind., where she lived for the past several years near her daughter, Dr. Amy Shapiro Holbreicht.

She was the youngest of three children, born in New York City to Nathan and Gertrude (Bryan) Miller. She graduated from the High School of Music and Art in New York City, where she excelled in piano. She graduated from City College in New York, where she received her bachelor of science degree in 1947.

She assisted her husband of 40 years, Jonas M. Shapiro, in all his endeavors as an engineer and entrepreneur. 

Shapiro was a successful Realtor in Stamford, and owned Country Homes on Summer Street. She later was associated with William Raveis Real Estate.

She is survived by her daughters, Laura, of Colorado and Amy, of Indiana; her son, Daniel, and four grandchildren.

Her husband died in 1987.

There will a service at Temple Beth El presided over by Rabbi Joshua Hammerman at 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford, to be followed by burial in the Temple Beth El cemetery.
