Esther Pizzella Sciarretta, 83, Longtime Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. - Esther Pizzella Sciarretta, a resident of Stamford and Hollywood, Fla.,  died Sunday, May 12. She was 83.

Sciarretta was born March 24, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Domenico and Antoinetta Pizzella. Her family moved back to Carano, Italy when she was five years of age. She met her husband Severino ”Sal” Sciarrretta and they moved back to the United States settling in Stamford when she was 17.

Sciaretta is survived by her sons, Dominick Sciarrretta of Norwalk, Silvio Sciarretta (Phyllis) of Stamford, Vincent Sciarretta (Denise) of Wilton; seven grandchildren; sister, Mafalda Gaudiano of Stamford. She was predeceased by her husband, Severino “Sal” Sciarretta; son, Jimmy Sciarretta; sister, Angelina Raimondo; and brothers, Domenico and Frank Pizzella.

Calling hours are Wednesday, May 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home Thursday, May 16 at 9:10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Ave., Stamford.
