STAMFORD, Conn. -- Longtime Stamford resident Elizabeth Goldfarb died Wednesday, Feb. 3. She was 93.
A Holocaust survivor, Goldfarb escaped from Nurenburg, Germany in 1939 on the Kindertransport, arriving in England, where she lived prior to immigrating to the United States, taking up residency in New York City.
Trained as a draper and pattern maker, she was employed in the haute couture industry, working for Mainbocher and then Castillio with Elizabeth Arden. Goldfarb and her husband also were business partners for more than 44 years, operating a women's clothing store, The Fashion Post, in Riverside, then Design Studio in Stamford, to showcase their artistic talents.
She was an active community volunteer with the FISH program and Stamford Chapter of Hadassah Thrift Shop, to name a few. As a member of Hadassah, she was president of the Stamford chapter and received numerous awards for her organizing and fundraising.
Goldfarb is survived by her daughters Rachel Girshick of Hampton and Miriam Goldfarb of Stamford; and her grandchildren Tara Girshick of Pawtucket, R.I. and Alexander Girshick of Windham.
She was predeceased by her husband of more than 40 years, David Goldfarb.
Shiva will be observed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday at 122 Palmers Hill Road, Unit 3232, Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hadassah, the Blue Card or the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous.
