Berkowitz was born Aug. 19, 1959, in Brazil, Indiana, to Bill and Juanita Neese of Poland, Indiana. She was raised on a farm in Poland, Indiana, where she attended a two-room schoolhouse and graduated from Brazil High School in 1977. After receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ball State University she moved to New York City and then Stamford, where she lived for the past 15 years.
Berkowitz worked for a time as a manager for noted psychiatrist and best-selling author Ari Kiev at his Social Psychiatry Research Institute in Manhattan and later was a manager at the J. Jill women’s clothing store at the Stamford Town Center.
Berkowitz is survived by her husband, Harry Berkowitz; son, Sam; parents; sister Janet (Mike) Van Nevel of Alexandria, Ky.; and brother, Gary (Michele) Neese of Poland, Indiana.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 28 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford St., Stamford. A memorial service will be held in Poland, Ind., at a later date.
