Doris C. Martin, 89, Of Stamford, Worked At Pitney Bowes

STAMFORD, Conn. - Doris Martin, a longtime resident of Stamford, died Thursday, April 24. She was 89.

Martin was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Stamford, she was the daughter of Martin and Elise Cash. She was a 1942 graduate of Darien High School. For 18 years, she was an accounts payable supervisor at Pitney Bowes.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the junior choir, a member of the altar guild, an usher, an officer of the Ruth Fellowship organization and secretary of the OWLS organization. She was also the treasurer of Noah's Ark Nursery School. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society, and New Covenant House Soup Kitchen, and was a Cub scout den mother.

Martin is survived by her son, John Martin of Stamford (Maureen Tracy); two grandsons; and sister, Rose Spodnick of New Milford. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Harold Martin; sisters, Elise Long and Evelyn Cash; and brother, Martin Cash.

Calling hours are Saturday, April 26 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford.
