TRUMBULL, Conn. - David Lawrence Mazza of Trumbull died Friday, Jan. 17. He was 71.

Mazza was born May 5, 1942, in Stamford; son of Dominic ("Happy") and Clara D'Andrea Mazza. He was awarded his bachelor's degree from Carroll College and went on to receive two master's degrees, a MA in History from Fordham University and MA in Educational Administration from University of Bridgeport. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in American History from St. John's University. He taught high school history in Stamford for 35 years and, upon retiring became an adjunct professor for Norwalk Community College. He founded and then became the athletic director of the sports program at UConn Stamford.

Mazza is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughter, Elizabeth Mazza (Christopher) Quinn of Maplewood, N.J.; two grandchildren; sister, Sister Mary Mazza, CND of Athens, N.Y.; nieces, nephews; and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Anne Pirone.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 10:30 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, Trumbull for a Mass. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation , 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.
