Bruce Nickel, 84, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Bruce A. Nickel, 84, died on Thursday, Jan. 22. He was 84.

Born on June 30, 1930. in the Bronx, to Olga and Bob Nickel, he grew up in Mount Vernon and Scarsdale, N.Y.. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Lehigh University before serving with the Air Force during the Korean War. He spent two years in Japan as a first lieutenant during his tour of duty. He returned to complete his master’s degree in engineering at Columbia University.

He worked as a manager at IBM Corporation for most of his career. He was a longtime resident of Stamford, where he and his wife, Mary Lou, raised their four children.

Nickel is survived by his children, Christopher, Stephen, Gretchen and Craig Nickel; son-in-law Chris Blunt; daughter-in-law Courtney Nickel; and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou; and and his sister Barbara Blanc.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Founders Hall in Ridgefield here and Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut here.
