Bernice Michalski, 92, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Bernice Pieczko Michalski, 92, lifelong resident of Stamford, died Friday, Feb. 13.

She was born in Stamford Jan. 12, 1923, to the late Charles and Helen Malachowsik Pieczko. She attended Holy Name grammar school, Stamford High School and was trained as a beautician at Park City Beauty School in Bridgeport. She worked at various beauty salons in Stamford until she purchased her own business, the High Ridge Beauty Salon, which she owned and operated from 1960-73.

Michalski loved traveling. After her husband retired in 1982, they drove across the United States by the northern route and returned east by the southern route. They also traveled to Alaska, Mexico, multiple European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Bora Bora, Singapore and Thailand, as well as spent multiple summers and autumns in the San Francisco Bay area with their daughter, Elaine.

Following the death of her husband in 2004, she continued to travel extensively with her son, Bob, and his wife, Barbara, going on multiple cruises to Greece, Bermuda and the Eastern and Western Caribbean, as well as a memorable escorted tour of Panama and the Panama Canal in 2010. She also enjoyed casinos and was an avid Yankees fan.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Michael Michalski; her daughter, Elaine Michalski; and a sister.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Michaels of Inwood, W. Va.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives may offer their sympathy and condolences to the family from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Bridget of Ireland Roman Catholic Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Ave., Stamford. The committal service and interment will immediately follow Mass at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
