Athanasios Koutinas, 72, Of Stamford, Owned Zakardis Restaurant

STAMFORD, Conn. - Athanasios “Zakardis” Koutinas of Stamford died Tuesday, Aug. 27. He was 72.

Koutinas was born Oct. 8, 1940, in Argiroupolis, Greece, to Ioannis and Katerina Tsitsias Koutinas. He was a self-employed restaurateur, owning Zakardis Restaurant. Koutinas is survived by his wife, Ioanna Koutinas; sons, Ioannis Koutinas (Jennifer) and Eleftherios Koutinas; two grandchildren; sister, Eleni Koutinas of Greece; brother, Eleftherios Koutinas (Flitisa); nieces nephew; and cousin. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Marika Kirkinis; and brother, Zisis Koutinas.

Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, with a Trisagion Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 and proceed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Ave., Stamford for a funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland Place, Stamford.
