Ann Vardaro Simon, 84, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Ann Vardaro Simon, 84, of Stamford, died Sunday, April 5.

She was raised in Philadelphia. Her parents, Lena Petti and Alfred Vardaro, settled in the city after emigrating from Italy at the turn of the century. She attended West Philadelphia High School and met her future husband when both were students at Penn. They married in 1953, moved to Greenwich and later settled in Stamford.

She worked for more than four decades as a school psychologist in the Bridgeport school system. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's in psychology from Fairfield University. She was a Stamford resident for 53 years and most recently resided at Atria Stamford. She was married for 61 years to her James F. Simon, an attorney in Stamford.

She is survived by her husband and three children: James Jr., (married to Cecilia Capuzzi Simon) of Bethesda, Md.; Diane Simon Indivero (married to Michael Indivero) of Mill Creek, Wash.; and Stephen Simon of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Friends and family may visit at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, April 9, from 9-10 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.
