Angelo Russo, 88, Of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Angelo Raffaele Russo, 88, a lifelong resident of Stamford, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015 at the Regency of Stamford.

He was born in Stamford March 10, 1926, to the late Charles and Filomena Mattera Russo. He was employed as a tool and die maker at Electrolux. He was an avid bowler, golfer and Yankees fan, as well as Little League coach and Stamford ping-pong champ in 1949. He also was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Frances Merckling Russo of Stamford; three sons, Gary, Robert and Jeffrey Russo, all of Stamford; a brother; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Russo was predeceased by his son, Charles Russo, and five siblings.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday  for a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 9 a.m. at The Basilica of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 279 Atlantic St., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Darien.

The family requests donations be made in Angelo's memory to the Alzheimer’s Association ,CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite # 200, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
