Albert A. Haviland, 91, Of Stamford, Retired City Fire Marshal

STAMFORD, Conn. - Albert A. Haviland of Stamford died Tuesday, Oct. 15. He was 91.

Haviland was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Stamford, to Harold H. and Freda (Petzolt) Haviland. He was a 1940 graduate of Stamford High School and a World War II U.S. Army Veteran serving with the 192d Field Artillery, 43d Infantry Division. He was discharged in 1945. He served in the Stamford Fire Department from 1950 to 1976 retiring as the city fire marshal. Following his retirement, he and Betty relocated to Florida, and then to Vermont. Following his wife's death he returned to Stamford.

Haviland is survived by his son, Robert Alan Haviland and fiancee, Jewel Kanoelani Petersen of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Bonnie Corpolongo (David) and Lorie Jean Kelley (Hank) all of Stamford; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Burns; sisters, Eleanor Hotchkiss, Florence Arnow and Doris Miller; and brother, Harold H. Haviland.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home on 2900 Summer St. Burial will follow in the Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford.
