Woman Found Dead on I-95 in Westport 'Suspicious'

WESTPORT, Conn. – (UPDATE 9:30 a.m.) An unidentified woman was found dead on the southbound on-ramp of Interstate 95 at Exit 18 in Westport just before midnight, state police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance said Friday morning.

It was being reported that the woman was hit and killed by a car. However, Vance could not confirm that and said police had not released that information.

“It’s a suspicious death,” Vance said. “She was pronounced dead at the Exit 18 entrance ramp. We’re investigating it.”

Vance said the incident was reported shortly before midnight Thursday. Police remained on the scene into the Friday morning commute.

A pedestrian was hit by vehicle on Interstate 95 south between Exits 18 and 17, the state Department of Transportation reported at about 4:52 a.m. Friday.

The right lane was closed, and traffic was congested Friday morning for more than 5 miles from Exit 23 to Exit 17, the DOT said.

The extent of the person's injuries was not reported.

A motor vehicle accident on I-95 south near the Exit 18 ramp had been reported by the DOT at about 12:30 a.m. Friday. WestportNow.com reported a woman's body was found dead on the Exit 18 on-ramp at about midnight.

However, state police would not confirm nor deny the report. "No information is being given out at this time," a dispatcher with Troop G in Bridgeport said shortly after 1 a.m.
