With Overnight Snow On The Way, Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Stamford

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Fairfield County commuters are in for a lousy drive to work on Friday morning.

The television stations can't agree on the snowfall totals for Friday, but the Connecticut State Police say it looks like a messy commute for Friday morning. Drivers should turn on their lights, go slow and increase following distances.

The entire region has been placed under a Winter Weather Advisory from 1 to 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, as a snowstorm arrives just in time to disrupt the morning commute, the National Weather Service says.

A coastal low pressure system will bring snow to Fairfield County late Thursday and overnight into Friday.

The forecast calls for moderate snow as 3 to 5 inches of snow falls across the region, with higher amounts possible. Winds of 10 to 20 mph could gust up to 30 mph and reduce visibility for drivers to a quarter mile.

Rain could begin to fall by late Thursday night. But the rain will mix with snow early Friday as the temperature drops below freezing, becoming all snow by daybreak across Fairfield County. A total of 1 to 3 inches of snow could accumulate overnight.

The chance of snow is 80 percent.

The mix will cause hazardous driving conditions throughout the morning rush hour.

Drivers are urged to use caution during the snowstorm.

The snow should end at about 9 a.m., with another 1 to 3 inches possible. High temperatures will hit the mid-30s under cloudy skies.

Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 18.

Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 41 but with wind chill values of 15 and 25.
