At about 5 p.m., Doppler Radar continued to indicate thunderstorms producing flash flooding throughout the area, the weather service said.
About 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen over portions of the area, it said. But continued rain will exacerbate flooding conditions and lead to new areas of flooding.
The heaviest rain fell in Ridgefield, Danbury, Georgetown, Wilton and Redding as well as in the greater surrounding area. Flooding was reported along Main Street, West Street, Beaver Brook Road and Shelter Rock Road in Danbury.
An urban and small river flooding advisory has been issued for all of Fairfield County.
Excessive runoff will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, roadways, highways and underpasses. If you encounter flooding on a roadway, do not drive your vehicle into the water. Turn around and find another route.
