Funeral arrangements are being made and will be announced when they are finalized.

Judy Martin worked for ConRail and Pitney Bowes before she decided to become a teacher.  At the time of her death, she was a board member of the Starfish Connection, a nonprofit that provides long-term mentoring to city students. She and her husband created the nonprofit.

Stamford Public Schools Superintendent Earl Kim expressed his sorrow and that of the school district.

"The Stamford community has suffered a great loss today with the passing of Judy Martin," he said in a statement. "After a career in business, Judy devoted the past 14 years of her life to Stamford’s children as a dedicated and loving reading teacher at Northeast Elementary school. She will be greatly missed by her students, fellow staff members and administration. Our condolences go out to Mayor Martin and to all whose life she touched.
