STAMFORD, Conn. — When “Trisha Goddard” premieres Sept. 17, Stamford audiences will see its namesake host use her conflict resolution skills to help those in need.
If those same people confronted her on the street, she would do the same.
“This show is who I am. It’s what I would do whether the cameras were there or not,” said the newest daytime talk show host to tape at the Stamford Media Center, explaining that if she was acting while filming the show, it would not look authentic.
Using her experience as a conflict resolution expert, which includes advising the Australian government on mental health issues, Goddard will focus on family drama, strained relationships or friendships and other issues between people that she will attempt to fix. Solving the conflict helps give her viewers the whole story, which she adds to by using her own personal experiences, as well as the guests.
“The drama is just the beginning of it,” said the London-born Goddard, adding that a lot of work is done before the show, researching her guests and mapping out their conflict to figure out ways to help them.
Before coming to Stamford, Goddard has appeared on television in Australia and England since 1986 as a reporter, anchor, and show host. Highlights of her career thus far include becoming the first black anchorwoman in Australia, becoming Independent Television’s “Queen of Chat” and publishing several books.
The idea for the show started after Goddard made guest appearances as a conflict resolution expert on “Maury,” also filmed at the Stamford Media Center, and she clicked with the people working there, including host Maury Povich.
Her show is the fourth to call the Stamford Media Center home, joining “Maury,” “The Jerry Springer Show,” and “The Steve Wilkos Show.” NBC Universal announced “Trisha Goddard” in February of this year, and began taping Aug. 1.
The first episode is scheduled to air locally on channel 55 at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sept. 17, and while she looks forward to it, she did say, “That does not mean I will be getting much sleep the night of Sept.16.”
