All state offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and courts, are closed Thursday. But post offices, schools and many town offices will remain open. Banks have the option of staying open or closing for the day.

Connecticut is one of eight states in the nation, including New York, that recognizes Lincoln's Birthday as a holiday.

Presidents Day, which will be celebrated nationwide Monday, Feb. 16, is actually known as Washington's Birthday in Connecticut, according to the state Department of Banking.
