STAMFORD, Conn. State Rep. William Tong, D-Stamford/New Canaan, officially ended his campaign for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, a press release said.
Tong, a Stamford resident who represents the 147th House District, made the announcement alongside Gov. Dannel Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman as they endorsed U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5th District, for the Senate nomination. Former Connecticut Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is also seeking the partys Senate nomination May 12.
"I want to congratulate William on a well-run campaign," Malloy said in the release. "His positive message and personal story struck a chord with many people, and I have no doubt that he'll find success in whatever he sets his mind to next."
Wyman said in the release, William is a true leader, and we will be seeing him in the future.
The Democratic nominee will face off in November against either Linda McMahon or former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays, who are competing for the Republican nod. The winner will replace U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an Independent Democrat who decided not to run for re-election.
