Martin is attending the 83rd Winter Meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. It began Wednesday.

Nearly 300 mayors from across the country are expected to be present, including 13 mayors from Connecticut. It will be Martin’s second time participating in the conference. He will be accompanied by Chief of Staff Michael Pollard.

“I am looking forward to representing Stamford, sharing ideas with mayors from across the state and country, and collaborating to come up with new and creative ideas for how to make government more effective and efficient,” said Martin.

While in Washington, the mayor will join discussions on several policy issues and hear from a number of key government officials. On Friday, the mayors are expected to be invited to a series of afternoon policy discussions at the White House with Cabinet Secretaries, followed by remarks from President Barack Obama.

Martin will also meet with officials in the Department of Transportation and Department of Justice to discuss Stamford’s priorities and to work to secure federal funding for projects.

“It is highly advantageous for the mayor to visit Washington and meet directly with federal agencies,” Pollard said. “Stamford competes for federal dollars with municipalities from across the country and the mayor’s advocacy is an important factor in maximizing federal support.”

Martin will return to Stamford on Friday evening.
