The vaccines, donated by Sanofi Pasteur of the vaccines division of Sanofi, are headed to 237 safety net clinics and health centers in 39 states participating in AmeriCares' U.S. Medical Assistance Program.
“Many of the patients who will benefit from these vaccines work jobs that do not offer health insurance or paid sick time. They literally cannot afford to spend a day in bed,” said Leslie McGuire, director of AmeriCares U.S. Medical Assistance Program, in a release. “We are helping to ensure low-income and uninsured patients all across the country will be healthy enough to provide for their families this winter.”
AmeriCares has been expanding its U.S. Medical Assistance Program with support from the G.E. Foundation to provide donated medicines, vaccines and medical supplies to more than 600 free clinics, community health centers and health departments serving the uninsured and underinsured at 1,300 locations in the country.
