Stamford Woman Gets 10 Years In Prison For Hit-And-Run Death Of Cop's Mom

STAMFORD, Conn. -- A Stamford woman who killed the 70-year-old mother of a city police officer in a hit-and-run accident last Easter will serve 10 years in prison, according to the Connecticut Post.

Yolanda McDowell, 46, was also sentenced to three years of probation for driving while high on drugs and alcohol and then fleeing the scene of the fatal accident on Woodland Avenue at 7 p.m. April 20, the Post said.

She had pleaded guilty in January to reckless manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Margarita Gonzalez was killed as she crossed the street after visiting family on Easter Sunday. About 30 of her family members attended the hearing and called for the maximum sentence, the Post said.
