Stamford Testing Water At All City Schools

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford officials are testing the water at all area schools for lead and other chemicals after an aging pipe at Turn of River Middle School contaminated the school's water supply, according to the Stamford Advocate.

To date testing has turned up one problem at Rippowam Middle School, with tests showing an elevated level of lead in a sink in the science lab, the Stamford Advocate reported. The sink tested negative after being flushed out, said the Stamford Advocate.

City officials said the tests are being conducted to make sure that the water quality in all schools meet drinking water standards. Most of the schools built before 1980 contain lead-based solder which can contribute to increased levels of lead in water, added the Stamford Advocate.
