Stamford to Sizzle Over the Next Few Days

STAMFORD, Conn. — Temperatures in Stamford are expected to soar into the 90s starting Wednesday and lasting through the weekend, the National Weather Service said.

The Weather Service has issued a heat warning for the city from noon Wednesday to 8 p.m. Thursday, and an air quality alert from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday, the Weather Service’s website said.

“The high temperatures forecast for this area can be dangerous and it is important that everyone take precautions when the temperature reaches 90 degrees and higher with the humidity at 60 percent or higher,” Anne Fountain, director of Health and Social Services for the city, said in a news release.

The city’s release also gives tips on how to prevent heat stroke by staying in air-conditioned places, drinking a lot of fluids (without alcohol, sugar, and caffeine) and wearing light-weight, light-colored clothing. If you must be outside, limit the amount of time outdoors as much as possible, it said.

The release also suggests visiting adults who may be at risk and not leaving animals or people in cars. You should also have your doctor’s phone number in case you experience signs of heat stroke.

Designated cooling centers are the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd., and all city-run fire houses, the release said. There are also several public swimming areas in the city: Dorothy Heroy Park, Cove Island Park, Cummings Park, and West Beach. Beach parking stickers are required at all swimming locations.
