The coastal storm will bring the potential for heavy snow, strong winds and dangerously cold wind chills from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon. Near blizzard conditions are forecast by the National Weather Service.

The City of Stamford's Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the storm, the city said in a press release. All city departments are prepared to respond to the storm.

Stamford reminds residents of these safety facts:

  • Life-threatening situations should be reported to 911.
  • Downed power lines and power outages should be reported immediately to CL&P at 1-800-286-2000.
  • To report operational issues such as downed trees, etc., the Citizens Service Center will be open for calls at 203-977-4140 during business hours. For nonemergency weather related issues after business hours call 203-977-4444.
  • Friday garbage and recycling pickup has been postponed to Saturday. Due to Wednesday’s holiday, Stamford delayed pickups this week by one day. As a result of the winter storm, residents normally receiving garbage pickup on Thursday or Friday will now receive pickup on Saturday.

• The city will open several warming stations for Friday. If necessary, shelter and other pertinent information will be made available through the city’s website and the media.
