“Access to nutritious food is important for a bright future for all of our young people,” Malloy tweeted Monday.

“At least 19 percent of (Connecticut) kids don’t know where their next meal is coming from — in the summer this gets more complex because kids are not in school,” he said in a separate Tweet.

More than 400 federally funded summer meal locations are spread throughout the state to serve free breakfasts and lunches to all kids ages 2 to 18, a statement from the governor said. Connecticut No Kid Hungry hopes to increase the participation by 9 percent this summer across the state.

The following places in Stamford currently participate in the program:

  • Salvation Army Seamless, 198 Selleck St.
  • Trailblazers Academy, 83 Lockwood Ave.
  • NEON New Expression Summer Camp Seamless, 34 Woodland Ave.
  • Rogers International School, 102 Blachely Road.
  • YMCA Seamless, 909 Washington Blvd.
  • Julia A. Stark School, 398 Glenbrook Road
  • Toquam Magnet School, 123 Ridgewood Ave.
  • Stillmeadow School, 800 Stillmeadow Ave.
  • Hart School, 61 Adams Ave.

In addition to an event in Hartford with Malloy and Connecticut Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor, Connecticut No Kid Hungry held promotions in Waterbury, Norwalk, Groton and Naugatuck on Monday to launch the free meals, the organization tweeted.
