Solarize Stamford, which expects to more than double the amount of solar across the community over the 20-week program, kicks off with its first solar workshop on Thursday. It takes place at the Stamford Government Center at 888 Washington Blvd., 4th floor Cafeteria, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Residents interested in learning more about the program's rebates are urged to attend. In order to participate in the discounts offered through Solarize, residents must sign a contract by April 8, 2014.
The initiative plans to increase residential solar by leveraging group discounts through pre-selected contractors to reduce costs. It relies on the community to provide outreach and education to create awareness and build interest. It also promotes a clear end-date that motivates residents to act.
After several weeks of interviews, town officials have formally selected Astrum Solar, Encon Solar and Renewable Resources to be part of Solarize Stamford and do all of the town’s installations.
“I am very happy that Stamford has been selected to participate in the Solarize Connecticut program because this will give our residents the opportunity to purchase solar power at a much more affordable cost,” Mayor Michael Pavia said in a statement. “I encourage our residents to participate in this wonderful energy-saving, environmentally-friendly program.”
