Stamford Opens Warming Stations Due To Cold Weather Overnight

STAMFORD, Conn. -- As the temperature dips overnight and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy activated the state's severe cold weather protocol, the City of Stamford began opening warming shelters for residents looking to get out of the cold.

The following warming centers in the city are open for the times and locations listed:

  • Domus/Chester Addison Community Center, 245 Selleck St., weekdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sundays 2 to 9 p.m.
  • Stamford Family YMCA, 10 Bell St., weekdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 29 Grove St., Mondays to Thursdays 6 to 9 p.m., no Fridays; Saturdays 5 to 9 p.m., Sundays 3 to 9 p.m.
  • Glenbrook Community Center, 35 Crescent St., weekdays 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd., 1st floor lobby, weekdays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Jewish Community Center, 1035 Newfield Ave., Mondays to Thursdays 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Central Fire Headquarters, 629 Main St., 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • South End Fire Station, 215 Washington Blvd., 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • West Side Fire Station, 80 Fairfield Ave., 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • East Side/Shippan Fire Station, 364 Shippan Ave.,  8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Woodside Fire Station, 1600 Washington Blvd., 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Belltown Fire Station, 8 Dorlen Road, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Long Ridge Fire Station, 366 Long Ridge Road, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Springdale Fire Station, 987 Hope St., 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Turn of River Fire Station, 268 Turn of River Road, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Inspirica, a Stamford-based provider of services to the homeless, will provide an overnight warming center from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. at 8 Woodland Place, Friday night and any night that Malloy declares Cold Weather Protocols.
