Stamford Neighbors Notes

“Curry” on down to the Spice Affaire, a new eatery that Shelly Nichani is excited to be opening adjacent to his restaurant Shelly’s on the River, at the Hampton Inn in Stamford. By June 1, customers will be able to enjoy the authentic cuisine of northern India, a style of cooking that relies more on the subtle and artful mixture of spices than on the hot seasonings typically associated with fare from that country.

Keeping the focus on food, Springdale residents who enjoy Giacomo’s Deli are looking forward to the opening of Giacomo's Springdale Market in early June. The new market will be a mini-supermarket carrying fresh, frozen and prepared foods, according to owner Jack Delli Carpini.

For nearly two weeks, Stamford hosted seven active-duty Israeli military personnel. Part of an annual event called Tzahal Shalom, which is organized through Stamford's Jewish Community Center, the program attempts to build cross-cultural understanding and develop lasting relationships between the soldiers and the Stamford community. The Israeli officers stay with local families and develop an understanding of life in America. The soldiers also had opportunities to meet with the community.  Irwin Miller was one of many people who met with the soldiers, along with public high school students and senior citizens. Receptions for public officials and clergy from local churches were also held.

Hallie and Jamie Sklar now have three children under the age of 4! On Monday, the Stamford couple welcomed the newest member of the clan, Geoffrey Solomon Sklar. He joins siblings Johanna, 3, and Theodore, 22 months. Hallie is a busy freelance magazine writer who also blogs about her family at http://hallielevinesklar.com. Jamie works as in-house counsel for a Greenwich hedge fund.
