Cesar Diaz-Vasquez of Taff Avenue was struck by a 2007 Honda Accord at about 11:20 p.m. as he attempted to cross Stillwater Avenue near West Main Street, or U.S. Route 1, police said.
Diaz-Vasquez was walking with a friend when they both attempted to cross from the west side of Stillwater Avenue to the opposite side of the street, police said. The friend was not hit.
The motorist, Thomas Rodriguez, 32, of Hope Street, was driving south on Stillwater Avenue when the collision occurred in the 50 block of Stillwater Avenue, police said. Rodriguez remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
Police said speed doesn't appear to be a factor, but they are looking at whether visibility played a role in the accident.
Anyone with additional information or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Stamford Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.
