Stamford Man, 73, Hit by Taxi

STAMFORD, Conn. — A 73-year-old Stamford man was hit by a cab while crossing Washington Boulevard on Tuesday morning, Stamford police reported.

Francis Monaghan, of Washington Court, was crossing Washington Boulevard at Main Street in downtown Stamford when he was struck, a police department statement said. He was found at fault for not obeying the pedestrian control signal, the statement said.

Monaghan sustained leg and head injuries when he was thrown by the impact. He was taken to Stamford Hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening.

The driver, Ofalio Juan-Pierre, 66, of Eveready Taxi, was not charged. Police said speed was not a factor.
